August 16, 2024

The Colorado Rockies defeated the San Diego Padres 7-3 on Tuesday night in a game that saw plenty of offense and some strong pitching performances.

The Rockies got on the board first in the top of the first inning when C.J. Cron hit a two-run home run off Padres starter Blake Snell.

The Padres answered back in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own on a sacrifice fly by Manny Machado, but the Rockies would add two more runs in the top of the second on a double by Brendan Rodgers.

  • The Rockies would go on to score two more runs in the top of the fourth inning on a home run by Kris Bryant, and another run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Yonathan Daza.
  • The Padres would get one more run back in the bottom of the fifth on a groundout by Ha-seong Kim, but that would be all the scoring for the Padres on the night.
  • Rockies starter Kyle Freeland pitched six strong innings, allowing just three runs on five hits while striking out seven batters.

Conclusion

The Rockies bullpen was also solid, with Daniel Bard, Carlos Estévez, and Alex Colomé combining to allow just one hit and no runs over the final three innings.

The win improves the Rockies' record to 63-59, while the Padres fall to 59-63.
