Baby Fell Off Cruise Ship

Cruise Line Cleared in Case of Toddler's Death

Family Devastated After Girl Falls from Balcony

Royal Caribbean Found Not Liable

A grandfather who was with his 18-month-old granddaughter when she fell to her death from an open window on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship is now suing the cruise line for negligence. The family of Chloe Wiegand is seeking $100 million in damages, claiming that Royal Caribbean failed to take adequate measures to prevent the accident. The cruise line has denied any wrongdoing and maintained that the child's grandfather was responsible for her safety. The case is currently pending in federal court.

The incident occurred in July 2019 aboard the Royal Caribbean ship Freedom of the Seas. Chloe was playing in the children's area with her grandfather when she wandered away and fell through an open window. The window was located in a public area of the ship, and there were no safety measures in place to prevent children from falling out. Chloe's family is arguing that Royal Caribbean should have installed screens or barriers on the windows to prevent this type of accident.

Royal Caribbean has argued that the grandfather was responsible for Chloe's safety and that the cruise line cannot be held liable for his actions. The cruise line also claims that Chloe's death was an isolated incident and that there is no evidence that the cruise line has a history of negligence. The case is expected to go to trial in 2023.
