Bruce Williss Family Announces His Frontotemporal Dementia Diagnosis

Bruce Willis's Family Announces His Frontotemporal Dementia Diagnosis

Beloved actor Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, his family announced.

The statement was released on Thursday, February 16th, 2023 and signed by his wife Emma Heming Willis, ex-wife Demi Moore, and five children: Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel, and Evelyn.

The statement reads, "Since we announced Bruce's diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, his condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD)."

"Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is a painful diagnosis, it is a relief to finally have a clear understanding of what he is experiencing."

According to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, FTD is "a group of disorders caused by the deterioration of nerve cells in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain."

Symptoms of FTD can include changes in personality, behavior, language, and movement. There is no cure for FTD, but treatment can help manage symptoms.

The Willis family is asking for privacy during this difficult time and expressed their gratitude for the support they have received.

"Bruce always believed in using his voice in the world to help others and to raise awareness about important issues," the statement reads. "We know in our hearts that - if he could today - he would want to respond to the outpouring of love and compassion by saying, 'Live it up' and 'Be kind to one another.'"

Our thoughts are with Bruce Willis and his family during this challenging time.
