Italy in Talks with Dongfeng for Auto Plant
Government Seeks to Attract Another Major Automaker to Country
Discussions at an Advanced Stage
ROME, Italy, April 17 (Reuters) - Italy is holding discussions with China's Dongfeng Motor Group (0489HK) and other automakers as part of its efforts to attract another major automaker to the country.
Talks between the Italian government and Dongfeng about establishing an auto plant in Italy are at an advanced stage, according to sources close to the matter.
Italy is seeking to entice Dongfeng to the country with various incentives, including financial support and regulatory assistance.
The government is also demanding that Dongfeng agrees to safeguards on cybersecurity and data protection as a condition for its support.
Last week, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited China to enhance cooperation with the world's second-largest economy and reestablish trade ties.
