Hughes, Pettersson Lead Vancouver to 4-1 Victory

Story Highlights

  • Quinn Hughes scored two goals and added an assist for the Canucks.
  • Elias Pettersson added a goal and an assist.
  • Dylan Holloway scored a natural hat trick for the Oilers.

The Vancouver Canucks finally got their first win of the preseason with captain Quinn Hughes leading the way. Hughes had two goals and an assist, while Elias Pettersson added a goal and an assist in a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday at Rogers Place.

Hughes opened the scoring just 1:34 into the game, wiring a shot past Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner. Pettersson made it 2-0 just over four minutes later, tapping in a rebound off a shot from Hughes.

The Oilers got on the board late in the first period when Holloway scored his first of three goals. However, Hughes restored Vancouver's two-goal lead early in the second period with a power-play goal.

Holloway completed his natural hat trick in the third period, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Oilers from falling to 0-2 in the preseason. The Canucks improved to 1-2 with the win.
