Boeing Whistleblower John Barnett Dead at 60

Barnett was an outspoken critic of the company's safety practices

He testified before Congress in 2019 about the 737 MAX crashes

John Barnett, a former Boeing quality inspector who filed a whistleblower complaint over alleged plane safety concerns, has been found dead at the age of 60.

Barnett's body was found in his home in Seattle on Tuesday, according to the King County Medical Examiner's Office. The cause of death is still under investigation.

Barnett was a quality manager at Boeing for 30 years before he was fired in 2018. He filed a whistleblower complaint with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 2019, alleging that Boeing had ignored safety concerns about the 737 MAX aircraft.

Barnett testified before Congress in 2019 about the 737 MAX crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia, which killed a total of 346 people. He told lawmakers that Boeing had put profits ahead of safety and that the company had ignored his warnings about the 737 MAX.

Boeing has denied Barnett's allegations and has said that the 737 MAX is a safe aircraft. The company has also said that Barnett was fired for performance reasons.

Barnett's death is the latest in a string of deaths of Boeing whistleblowers. In 2019, Joshua Dean, a former Boeing engineer, was found dead in his home in Missouri. Dean had also filed a whistleblower complaint with OSHA, alleging that Boeing had ignored safety concerns about the 737 MAX.
